Original & Mineral Project Sukuroi Gold Smoothing Balm

It’s absolutely shameful that I haven’t properly talked about Original & Mineral Project Sukuroi Gold Smoothing Balm before today. I’ve mentioned a few times here and there, but I haven’t devoted a proper sit down to this fantastique gold wonder pot.

My hair regularly takes a hammering in my quest for perfect silver hair. Every five weeks I pop away to get my naturally dark brown hair lifted to startling bright white blonde, then toned to a blue silver grey. That’s hard on even the toughest hair. I also have a naturally dry scalp – and subsequently dry hair – and live in the middle of Sydney with all the pollution and road dust that entails. My ‘do cops a beating, to put it mildly.

Without a lot of babying and care my locks can get dry, fragile and break easily. While the right treatments, cleansers and styling products keep my hair in good shape within the shower, I still need something to keep my hair supple, flexible and moist during the week. I’m also incredibly lazy so I want something that requires minimal effort to use, natch.

Which brings me to Original & Mineral Project Sukuroi Gold Smoothing Balm. This stuff is the shizz. It’s an elastic golden creme that I apply to damp hair before blowdrying to fake-it-til-I-make-it re: having soft, silky, faux virgin hair. Seriously. Using this makes my dry-ass fragile hair feel like it hasn’t suffered through years upon years of bleaching, toning, colouring and neglect.

The balm seals up every crack and gap in my hair without adding weight or stiffness. It’s full of stuff I have no idea about – keratin, macadamia oil, the spicily named Gold Of Pleasure oil – but it feels nice, has a very subtle golden pearl that doesn’t cast yellow on my silver hair, and smells nice. You know, the important stuff.

I’ve overdosed heavily on this balm in the past and it still didn’t feel sticky or heavy. It’s soft, silky and full of movement. It feels like a hair commercial (and I’ve done a hair commercial before, and lemme tell you: my rude face didn’t look good in HD slow motion, but my O&M hair sure did!).

It’s easy-as to use: just slap it on my midlengths to the ends (approximately a generous fingerful, slightly more if my hair is truly toasted or I’m expecting humidity and/or rain), and scruff any remaining balm on my roots. Blowdry until I get bored, maybe pass over a couple of times with my elderly GHD if I’m feeling particularly inspired, and voila. Done.

Perfectly faked baby soft virgin hair with minimal effort. I love it. 5/5 stars.
